Parents should know... About Mrs. RikardHello and welcome! I am Ellen Rikard. I am a 1999 graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School, and am proud of my Lexington Three education. I have been a school-based speech-language therapist for eight years. Seven of these years have been spent here at Batesburg-Leesville Primary School. Prior to this, I provided speech-language services at Belvedere Elementary School for one year. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Columbia College (2003); a Master's Degree in Communication Disorders from the University of South Carolina (2009); a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (2011); and a State License to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist from the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (2011). I live here in Batesburg-Leesville with my husband, Nick, and sons, Tanner and Pace. I am a life-long resident of Batesburg-Leesville; I enjoyed growing up in our small town, and want my children to have that experience as well. I enjoy gardening, spending time with my boys, and participating in activities at my church.
![]() Individual Practice at HomeHome practice will be sent on the basis of each student’s individual readiness and need. When received, please use this homework to help your child build awareness of his/her speech targets in the home environment. Additional homework assignments may be sent upon your request. Progress ReportsStudents do not earn grades in speech class, as they do in their other classes. Each speech student will receive a quarterly progress report. This report is sent home with each student's quarterly report card. The progress report addresses how the student is progressing with each of his/her speech goals as outlined in the Individualized Education Program (IEP). It is up to parents to decide whether or not to share information on the progress report with their child. It is important for the student to understand that they are not graded on their speech work, and should not be overly concerned with the information on the progress report. We don't want students to become discouraged because they have not mastered their speech goal, although they have been working very hard. Parents who have specific concerns should contact me, and I will be glad to talk with them individually.
